Last week Fobzu board member Dr Mezna Qato took time out of her research trip to the occupied West Bank to return to Birzeit University and meet with students and colleagues on campus.

Meeting with members of the Advancement Office, Faculty of Education and Right to Education campaign, Dr Qato discussed some of the recent challenges facing staff and students at the university, among them the new restrictions recently announced by Israeli military authorities, which threaten to further isolate Palestinian higher education.

Dr Qato, an historian of Palestinian education at Cambridge University, described her meeting with some of the students receiving Fobzu scholarships as the highlight of her visit.

“It was a joy to finally meet in person with a few of the young people Fobzu is supporting through its scholarship programme. I found their energy and enthusiasm for education inspiring. I’m so proud of what they’re achieving in such challenging circumstances and so glad that we’re able to help them on their journey.”

This academic year, Fobzu has provided scholarships to 14students in financial need at Birzeit University. Support Fobzu’s work expanding access to education for Palestinians here.
